2020 Pro Aging and LOHAS: Social Welfare, Education and Psychology
People are living longer, and the proportion of older people keeps growing. The number of people over the age of 60 is expected to double by 2050. It matters, therefore, to address the issues that follow, whether in medical treatment, social welfare or financial security. More attention is being placed on the demands of people in their golden ages, alongside business ideas that serve the rapidly growing senior citizen market.
With one of the lowest fertility rates in the world and the highest life expectancy, Japan faces an unprecedented challenge. The Japanese government and other stakeholders are tackling it with a sense of crisis and with the help of technology. Panasonic developed a smart walker that uses artificial intelligence to help users stay mobile and independent for as long as possible.
As the labour structure changes, new lifestyles have emerged, which leads to new industries and new demands. Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability, known as LOHAS, define a market segment linked to sustainable living, and the idea has served as one of the key spirits in this field.
In 2020 the Pro Aging and LOHAS international conference created an outstanding platform to engage in dialogue for and of the elderly, and delegates joined the organisers in Hokkaido, Japan, from August 5 to 7.
